Floral Design On a Dime

Floral Design on a Dime

Turn up like T-Pain! Spring has sprung! (insert all the flower emojis here).

We're going to show you how you can make your own flower headboard this spring.

Things you will need:

-gaffer tape or packing tape (gaffer tape is stronger - but packing tape is clear)

-scissors

-flowers (we'll get into more detail about what kind and amount later)

-a couple towels to lay out the flowers on (some stems can be damp).

If you want longevity out of your flower wall, we suggest using flowers such as roses, lavender, and baby's breath. These flowers dry up nicely. But to get the best bang for your buck, you should purchase dried flowers and faux/artificial flowers to decorate your wall with.

We suggest mixing artificial flowers with dry flowers to get a more natural look.

Note: All the flowers in this post's flower wall are real (some are dried), but we've made plenty of pieces with artificial included as well.

"Where do I buy these flowers???" you may ask.

Well if you're ballin' on a budget, you can buy bouquets of real flowers in almost any grocery store ($5 - $10 depending on the amount of flowers in the bunch) - stay away from florists - they charge an arm and a leg. However, the florist will sell a bouquet of baby's breath or lavender for a decent price (usually $10 - $20).

We typically purchase our dried flowers on Amazon - here's a link to some of those on Amazon. There's so many options!

"How many flowers do I need?"

That obviously depends on how large you want the "headboard" or how minimal you want it to look.

Some of our pieces have about 40 flowers, and some pieces (this particular one) took about 95 flowers. 95 flowers is about 5 - 6 bouquets; so at about $5 - $10 for each bouquet, the project can cost about $25 - $60). Not Bad for a beautiful statement piece! Not to mention, super photogenic!

But if you want your money to work for you in the long run, then faux flowers at Urban Outfitters range from $6 - $24, and we've even seen Michael's artificial flowers start as low as $1.49 a piece!
